Anil Gurav died on March 31 2026, aged 61. The man who was once called the Viv Richards of Mumbai, who lent Sachin Tendulkar the bat with which he scored his first competitive century, who was picked up by police looking for his gangster brother and beaten until he couldn’t stand — until his death he lived in the same 200-square-foot room in Nalasopara where this piece found him.
